Priority Standards

It is a good idea to review and refresh Priority Standards every year or two. Looking at standardized test results to determine areas of weakness might drive some of this revision. Below is a grid that might aid is this task. Insert the standards you consider a priority and see what score they earn. Are there other standards that might be better to target as a priority? Remember, all standards are addressed, but just priority standards get targeted for mastery. Authors of A School Leader’s guide to Standards-based Grading suggest no more than 12 – 20 Priority Standards for the year. This number includes all subjects. This allows time for reteaching of the most important standards.
